Kaiyu Superfoods harvests premium-quality quandongs and freeze-dries them to lock in all their natural goodness. Known as quandong, native peach, guwandhang (Wiradjuri) and kurtuki (Ngarrindjeri), this ancient fruit has existed for over 45 million years, with pollen samples found at Nelly Creek, SA!
Highly nutritious and deeply valued, Quandongs have been used by Aboriginal peoples across southern and inland arid regions for thousands of years. Early settlers also embraced the fruit, commonly making jams and chutneys.
Flavour
Slightly sweet and tart — like a cross between peach and Granny Smith apple.
Product Highlights
• Vegan
• Gluten Free
• Dairy Free
• No Added Sugar
• 100% Natural — no synthetic nutrients
• 100% Australian grown, wild-harvested, manufactured & owned
Provenance
Kaiyu Superfoods harvests Quandongs for their freeze-dried powder from an organic orchard in South Australia. They also grow their own Quandongs and will be harvesting from these plantings in the coming years. Each batch is picked at peak ripeness to ensure maximum nutrient retention.
Unlike many orchards that use sprays to control the native quandong moth, Kaiyu Superfoods chooses not to use chemical sprays. This native moth has evolved alongside the Quandong for hundreds of thousands of years. Instead, they rely on natural ecological balance — allowing birds to feed on the moths as they always have. Any moth-affected fruit is composted and returned to the soil.
Kaiyu freeze-dry and process their own Quandongs and employ Indigenous people in the production and sale of their products.
